By listening to veterans already in our ranks and partnering with a variety of groups helping veterans find jobs, we are continuously deepening our understanding of what being “Military Friendly” means and striving to be the exceptional security agency home for former and reserve military.
Moving forward, as we continue recruiting america’s veterans, we want to provide strong support and a XGI welcome to our security agency for every military spouse and veteran. Here is a quick resource guide for transitioning military families.
Military One Source
Military One Source is a free service that provides military service members and their families with expert information, online tools and counseling on concerns such as education, relocation, parenting, stress and more. Consultants are available 24/7/365 by phone, online and email. The service includes a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) that provides resources, tools, articles and support to help transitioning service members define and reach education and career goals. TAP is a partnership of the Department of Defense, the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service.
Military.com
Military.com is the largest military and veteran membership organization today, with 10 million members. The organization’s mission is to help members get the most out of their military experience, from government benefits, scholarships, and discounts, to opportunities for connections with friends and mentors. Military.com has partnered with Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW) to offer service members, veterans and military spouses better access to career and educational opportunities. The site also features insider tips, headline news, stories from members and other content geared to military interests.
USAA’s Advice Center
USAA provides insurance, banking, investments, retirement and advice for military personnel, veterans and their families. USAA’s Advice Center includes a wealth of tools, resources and information on military life, family life, buying, selling and maintaining homes and autos, moving, retirement, personal finances and much more. USAA also hosts Military Veterans and Military Spouse Communities, where veterans and their spouses can share advice and participate and learn from discussions on issues important to them.
USA 4 Military Families
USA 4 Military Families is a platform where users can search by state for information on the status of 10 key issues important to military families: licensure and academic credit for military education, training and experience; spouse licensure portability and eligibility for unemployment compensation; veterans treatment courts; access to affordable childcare; consumer protections and enforcement of the predatory lending regulation; retention of earned priority for receiving Medicaid home and community care waivers; improved absentee voting; waiver of required waiting time for separating military personnel to obtain in-state tuition rates; identification of military children in education system; and standardizing relationships between the DoD and state child welfare agencies.
Veterans Crisis Line

The Veterans Crisis Line is an around-the-clock lifeline connecting veterans (and families and friends of veterans) to responders from the Department of Veterans Affairs who understand their experiences and are qualified and specially trained to help. Many responders are veterans themselves. Crisis support is available by phone, online chat or text message. Family and friends are often the first to recognize signs of emotional distress and are encouraged to reach out for help.

USAA’s Military Spouse Community
Spouse Community is a place where military spouses can connect, learn and help one another. A team of community managers provides expert advice on the issues that matter most to military spouses, including PCS, deployment, going civilian, and money matters. Visitors can browse articles, participate in online discussions, and access advice, planning tools, and additional resources.
The Spouse Channel – Military.com
The Spouse Channel features articles, discussions and advice on a broad range of topics of interest to military spouses. Military spouses can find help for planning and organizing a move and tools for investigating housing options. They can access information on healthcare, legal assistance and benefits available to service members and families. They can also explore content on education, employment, relationships, and social networking – all tailored to military spouses.
Military Town Advisor
Military Town Advisor helps current and past military with information they need to make housing decisions. In partnership with GreatSchools, Military Town Advisor provides performance profiles, ratings and parent reviews of more than 200,000 Pre-K-12 schools. In addition to GreatSchools ratings and reviews, Military Town Advisor is a resource for information and reviews by military families of off base neighborhoods, apartments and the areas around military bases.
Military Youth on the Move
Military Youth on the Move provides advice and information on topics including moving, school, social life and more for kids ages 6-8, preteens ages 9-12 and teenagers ages 13 to 17. They can explore the site by age group or browse through general menus to find guidance on many youth concerns, such as saying goodbye, staying in touch, making new friends, and finding things to do. Military Youth on the Move provides access to help with deployment, divorce, bullying and finding someone to talk to as well as information about healthy eating and exercise habits, responsible social media behavior and safety from online predators.
Care.com
Care.com offers convenient, centralized access to quality child care with a 35% discount for military families who are USAA members. Care.com is a resource for all kinds of care solutions from babysitters, child care centers, and special needs caregivers to petsitters, errand runners and tutors. In all 50 states and 16 countries, Care.com provides a trusted place for military families to find care providers and to connect with other military families interested in exchanging child care. Care.com also posts articles and content tailored to military family needs and hosts online communities where military families can share stories and advice.
Sittercity Military Program
Sittercity Military Program is a child care program for military families with membership funded by the Department of Defense. Sittercity helps find babysitters, nannies, certified CDH/FCC providers, senior care, petsitters and tutors. With Sittercity membership, families have access to caregiver profiles, references and reviews from other military families.
